Alonso Rodriguez

Father Alphons (Alonso ) Rodriguez ( * 1526 in Valladolid, Spain, † February 21, 1616 in Seville) was a Spanish Catholic priest, Jesuit, and ascetic writer. He is sometimes confused with St. Alphonsus Rodriguez (1532-1617), a lay brother of the Society of Jesus.

Life

Alfonso Rodriguez studied at the University of Salamanca philosophy, entered the Society of Jesus in 1545 and lectured upon completion of his studies and ordination twelve years of moral theology in Monterey. During further twelve years he was master of novices, and stood in the seventeen years that followed as rector of the colleges of Monterey and Montilla ago. Then he was eleven years Spiritual in Cordoba and spent his last years in Seville, where he died at an advanced age in the odor of sanctity.

Work
