Alonzo Levister

Alonzo Levi Rochester ( born 1 November 1925 in Greenwich, Connecticut ) is an American arranger, composer, music producer and jazz pianist.

Life and work

Levi Rochester grew up in New York City and studied at the Boston Conservatory (1946 ), in Paris and at the Juilliard School. During the early 1950s he wrote ballet music. In addition, he worked for several dance orchestras and companion on Katherine Dunhmas was dancing school. In 1955 he worked for Thad Jones and Charles Mingus Big Band at the titles as well as the portrait sung by Don Senay tracks Makin ' Whoopee, The Edge Of Love and Funny. His suite Manhattan Melodrama appeared in 1956 as the debut album at Records. In 1957 he delivered the arrangements of the album Roots of the Prestige All Stars. In the same year John Coltrane recorded his composition Slow Dance with the Red Garland Trio. 1958 " Blues in the Subway" was his one-act operas performed in New York.
