Alpha Boys School

Alpha Cottage School ( often called Alpha Boys School ) is a school at the South Camp Road in Kingston, Jamaica, which is run by Catholic nuns. The school was founded in 1880 as a school for wayward boys ( school for wayward boys '). She was the one for the strict upbringing as well as the outstanding quality of music teaching known. The school has since 1892 her own music band, and later a brass band for a donation of brass instruments by the Catholic Bishop of Kingston. This musical orientation of the school also had influence on the development of reggae.

Known students of the school were Desmond Dekker, four founding members of the Skatalites Tommy McCook, Johnny " Dizzy " Moore, Lester Sterling and Don Drummond and Rico Rodriguez, Yellowman, Vin Gordon, Harold McNair, the saxophonist Joe Harriott, Cedric Brooks and Wilton Gaynair, "Deadly " Headley Bennett and the vocalist Leroy Smart.

The Bochum ska band Alpha Boy School has been named after the school.
