Alte Feste

The Alte Feste is located in the heart of Namibia's capital Windhoek on the Robert Mugabe Avenue fortress. It was built by the German colonial force under Captain Curt von François, to secure peace between the warring Nama and Herero. Construction began on 18 October 1890, is seen as a foundation stone of the present city, when billeted a variety of personnel around the fortress with the construction of the fortress.

Architects were the master mason Gustav Tünschel and from 1901 Gottlieb Redecker.

The Old Fort now houses the National Museum of Namibia. On the towers and walls still stand guns from the time of construction.

The end on 4 November 2010 in front of the main entrance, inaugurated equestrian monument was dismantled on 25 December 2013, and transferred to the interior of the Alte Feste. Previously, it had to give way to the construction company located by the North Korean art troupe Overseas Projects under construction Independence Memorial Museum.
