Alternative newspaper
A city magazine is a magazine that focuses on local issues of a city or region and usually contains a calendar of musical events, exhibitions, films and similar service pages.
History
City newspapers, the precursor of the city magazines, emerged in the 1970s as part of the alternative culture. The established daily press at that time reflected often the alternative culture not resist. Therefore, the idea of a counter-public, realized in so-called Instead newspapers emerged. The first German city newspaper was the Hobo 1971-1977, published in West Berlin. The Frankfurt -paved beach and the Munich sheet were also early and important city newspapers. As a precursor of the city magazines can apply the New York-based Village Voice since 1955. In the U.S., such magazines are referred to as alternative weeklies.
Today, many city magazines belong to established media companies. But there are still independent magazines that are since 1970 to the present on the market, such as the Nuremberg city magazine Plaerrer, paving the beach successor Journal Frankfurt, Bonn and Cologne Schnüss Stadtrevue.
Online City Magazine
Meanwhile, typical printed editions have retired in the online world or parallel set up an online portal. In the background are often renowned publishers who finance themselves via display advertising. In contrast to the commercial projects often are the city-specific issues taking center stage at the nonprofit. Special interest magazines
In 1980 in Würzburg probably the first German city magazine Mamamia family. The editor Barbara Pohl was honored in 1990 with the Federal Order of Merit. There are now also in other cities such family magazines that concentrate specifically relevant for the target group people with children regional information and dates.
