The castle Altrathen is a rock castle on a rock near Rathen in Saxon Switzerland, Saxony ( Germany ).

History

In contrast to neighboring rock castle Neurathen is about the history of this plant is little known. Probably it was built together with this in the 11th century. The castle is first mentioned 1289. 1469 Altrathen is looped together with Neurathen.

1888 buys the industrialist Eduard Seifert, the remains of the castle and build the plant in 1893 in neo-Gothic style again. From the medieval castle the basement and part of the spiral staircase of the keep only remained.

After 1945, the building serves as company holidays home for the VEB brewing and malt in Dresden and later for the State Bank of the GDR. In 1995, the investment of the trust establishment will be sold to private owners. Since then, the building is used as a small hotel and restaurant.
