Alur people

The Alur are a nilotisches people of Uganda and live mainly in the district of Nebbi in northwestern Uganda, but also in the north- eastern Congo - the north of Lake Albert.

They are part of the larger Luo ethnic group and their language, Alur is understandable to the Acholi with their eponymous language.

The Alur chiefdom is the only system of government, which remained unaffected by the abolition of the traditional monarchies in 1966 on the part of the Ugandan central government.
