Alveolate
The Alveolata provide a family of single-celled eukaryotes. They include, inter alia, dinoflagellates ( dinoflagellates ), the Apicomplexa, and ciliates ( Ciliophora ). All three strains contain complex unicellular organisms.
Eponymous feature are differently designed for the individual sub- tribes flat vacuoles at the cell membrane ( pellicle ), called alveoli, which have been lost in some species again. The function of the alveoli is not known in each case. Dinoflagellates in these vacuoles are filled with many types of cellulose, and are referred to as theca.
Other features include tubular or bottle- like tapering cristae in mitochondria.
Probably the tribe emerged from a Perkinsus -like representative before 1.2 billion years.
System
Adl et al. divide the Alveolata into the following groups:
- Dinozoa Dinoflagellates ( dinoflagellates )
- Perkinsidae
- Oxyrrhis
- Colponema
- Ellobiopsidae
