Alvise Contarini

Alvise Contarini (* October 24, 1601; † January 14, 1684 ) was the 106th Doge of Venice. He reigned from 1676 to 1684.

Family

The Contarini family had the first Doge made ​​in 1042, the seven more followed. Alvise Contarini, nephew of the Doge Francesco Contarini, was the last of the Contarini - Doge.

Life

Alvise was born as the third son of Niccolo Contarini Michiel and Elena. He was not married.

Prior to his election as Doge he had represented the Serenissima as ambassador to France, Spain, Holland and at the Curia in Rome.
