Church in Alzingen

Alzingen ( Luxembourgish: Alzeng ) is a medium-sized Luxembourg village in the municipality Hesperingen. It is located in the region Gutland and belongs to the canton of Luxembourg. The village is situated about 6 km south of the city of Luxembourg and has 1,905 inhabitants ( 2014).

Location

The village lies on the Alzette and is surrounded by its neighboring villages Fentange in the west and Hesperingen and Izzy in the north. The National Highway 3 between Luxembourg and Frisingen through the town center.

History

Marriage Alzingen fell on January 2, 1823 under the administration of Hesper, formed the village together with the neighboring villages Fentange and Kockelscheuer an independent municipality.

A resident of the city in the 19th century brickworks put forth tiles of clay.

Between 1882 and 1955 led the route of the narrow gauge railway in Luxembourg Remich, also called Jhangeli by Alzingen.

Culture and sights

The history of the St. Joseph church dedicated Alzingen dates back to the 9th century. Your Romanesque tower with three bells consecrated 1962, the oldest part of the building, is now tilted far to the west that it is visible to the naked eye. In their current form, the Church since the end of 1885, when they were enlarged by excavation work. Last Alzinger the church, between July 1998 and March 2000, renovated.
