Gutland (Luxembourg)

The Gutland ( sometimes referred to as Bon Pays or Pays Bon ) is a landscape to the south and the center of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg ( about 68 % of the territory ), the extreme southwest corner of Rhineland -Palatinate (north of Trier) and the westernmost includes the area of the Saarland to the places Nennig, Besch and Perl. The Gutland is bounded on the (south- ) east of the Moselle and goes in ( Southern ) West over the Lorraine basin. In the north, it connects to the (also Islek / Éislek called ) Ösling.

The Gutland has a mild, temperate climate, and productive soils on calcareous, clayey sedimentary formations of the Muschelkalk, Keuper and the Lias. The average height is between 200 and 300 meters above sea level. This results in an intensive agricultural use about two -thirds of the area for the cultivation of wheat, potatoes, forage crops and fruit, as well as for Viticulture on the Mosel. The remaining third of the area is scarce passed with mixed forests (mainly oak and hornbeam ). The south of the region is more strongly influenced by industry.
