Amandava

Male Tigerastrild ( Amandava amandava )

Amandava is a genus of the family of finches ( Estrildidae ), which shall, subject to the opinion of two or three species. Two of them are in southern and eastern Asia, one in front in large parts of Africa. The latter, which is Goldbrüstchen, sometimes abgegliedert in the monotypic genus Sporaeginthus.

The two Asian species are probably more closely related to each other than with the African Goldbrüstchen, which apparently is rather close to the Astrilden the genus Estrilda. They show various similarities with the bronze males ( Lonchura ).

The three types are similar with respect to the plumage structure and coloration, but also in the type of nest building and the habitat requirements. They are found in dense swards or bushes, often near water.
