Edward Blyth

Edward Blyth ( born December 23, 1810 in London, † December 27, 1873 ) was an English zoologist and ornithologist. He is known as one of the founders of Indian Zoology.

Blyth was born on 23 December 1810 in London. In 1841 he traveled to India to be the curator of the Royal Asiatic Society of Bengal. He began by updating the catalogs of the museum and in 1849, published a catalog of the birds of the Asiatic Society ( Catalogue of the Birds of the Asiatic Society ). Even he could not afford a lot of field work, but he described many bird species, which he got from Hume, Tickell, Swinhoe and others. Until 1862 he was curator at the time his poor health forced him to return to England. 1881 his work The Natural History of the Cranes was published.
