Amatori Catania

Amatori Catania Rugby is an Italian rugby union club based in Catania. Its first team, the only professional Sicily, played to 2008 in the top Italian league Super 10 Currently the club plays in the Serie A. The home games are at the Stadio Santa Maria Goretti discharged.

History

The club was founded in 1963. The first team first played in Serie C and rose in 1965 in the B series. 1969/70 was Amatori Catania during a Serie A season. 1973 succeeded the Re- promotion to Serie A. The team played 1988/89 in Serie A2, then to 1997 again took place in Serie A. 1999, the descent into the B series, 2003, the promotion back to the Serie A. As one of the ten best teams in the country belongs Amatori Catania since 2004, the new professional league Super 10. In 2005, the team reached the semi-finals of the Championship, but was eliminated by Treviso.

Amatori Catania is still never become Italian champion, but has qualified in recent years for European cup competitions. 2004/ 05 and 2005/ 06 the team was represented in the European Challenge Cup. 2008, the club was relegated after just two wins from 18 games and with more than 20 points behind in the Serie A from.
