Ambazon is a drug which has been used as an antiseptic in the mouth and throat. It was patented in 1957 by Bayer under the trade name Iversal ®, but is no longer commercially available.
Chemically, Ambazon a functional derivative of 1,4- benzoquinone (p- benzoquinone ). The compound has strong basic properties.
Synthesis
The synthesis is carried out starting from Ambazon of 1,4-benzoquinone in two steps by reaction with aminoguanidine, and thiosemicarbazide.
