, In German sometimes called Amblystegium serpens Crawling stump moss cover, one is in Central Europe widespread and frequent, but rather inconspicuous moss species.

Description

The irregularly but densely branched plants produce delicate grass. The shoots, which are about 1 mm wide including leaves are up to 4 cm long and can with numerous rhizoids adhere to the substrate.

The lanceolate leaves are pulled out in a long point. The leaf margin is entire, rarely also denticulate. The cells of the leaf blade is about 3 to 5 times as long as wide. The midrib extends to the center of the page or something about it, but not until the blade tip.

As in all species of the capsule is cylindrically curved and has a narrowest point well below the capsule opening.

Dissemination

The species grows in damp or shady locations of all kinds, from the lowlands to above the timberline, in urban and semi-natural areas, on wood, rock or earth.

She is almost cosmopolitan spread (northern hemisphere, South Africa, South America, New Zealand). In Central Europe it is widespread and common.
