Ambositra

Province

Ambositra is a city in the central highlands of Madagascar. It is located about 180 kilometers south of the capital Antananarivo. The name means where there are many cattle. The number of inhabitants increased from 16,780 (1975 ) about 21,350 (1993 ) to today around 31,000 people. They mainly belong to the people of Betsileos.

It is the political center of the Amoron'i Mania region in the province of Fianarantsoa.

Ambositra is a trading center for rice and vegetables. In recent years tourism has increased jobs. In addition, the city center of woodcarving craft.

Religion

The city is the seat of the diocese Ambositra.
