Ambrose Senyshyn

Ambrozij Andrew Senyshyn OSBM ( born February 23, 1903 in Stary Sambir, Ukraine, † September 11, 1976 in Philadelphia, USA) was Archbishop of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic archeparchy Philadelphia.

Life

Ambrozij Andrew Senyshyn was, belonging in 1903 in the town of Stary Sambir to today's western Ukraine administrative unit of Lviv, was born. Senyshyn was ordained a priest on August 23, 1931, was 28 years of age.

On July 6, 1942 at age 39, he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of the Ordinariate of the Uniate Byzantine believers in the United States, also was appointed Titular Bishop of Maina. The bishop was ordained by Constantine Bohacewskyi on 22 October 1942. Senyshyn was appointed on 20 July 1956 at age 53, Vicar Apostolic of Stamford. This was followed on 10 July 1958, the appointment as Bishop of Stamford, at the age of 55 years.

At age 58, on August 14, 1961 Ambrozij Andrew Senyshyn was appointed Archbishop of Philadelphia. Ibid died Archbishop Senyshyn at the age of 73 years, on 11 September 1976. Archbishop Ambrozij Andrew Senyshyn adopted as a Council Father at Vatican II part. Overall Senyshyn had been for 45 years worked as a pastoral priest, including 33 years in the episcopate.
