AMD mobile platform

The notebook platform AMD was presented as a response to Intel's Centrino. In contrast to only Centrino processor and chipset are set at AMD variant. The Wi-Fi chip, however, is left to the OEMs, he only has to satisfy some properties.

History

The answer to the Pentium M, AMD delivered in the form of the AMD Mobile Sempron and AMD Mobile Athlon 64 in 2003. Was only in 2005 the first real notebook processor followed by the name of AMD Turion 64 One could, however, not a complete platform, such as the Intel Centrino platform offer. Instead, they left here onto other producers such as ATI and nVidia in the field of chip sets, graphics cards and IGPs and thus offered a competing product to the Centrino platform. It was only with the purchase of ATI one was able to offer a complete platform from a single source. The first complete platform was launched under the code name "Cougar " in 2008. 1st generation ( Puma)

The first complete and straight current generation was introduced in 2008 under the code name Puma and consists of following components. But need not be integrated in a system all the features:

• M770 (without IGP)
• M780G ( with Radeon HD 3200)

• Graphics cards from NVIDIA or AMD / ATI

The following functions Puma has also:

• DDR2 -800 support.
• Chipset with IGP ( M780 series) ATI Hybrid Graphics Hybrid Crossfire
• PowerXpress

Future

The second generation should have the name Shrike and will be presented in 2009. Special new features will be the support of DDR-3 and the use of a new processor designs called Swift, which is based on the fusion project.
