The American Hairless Terrier is, according to provisions of the AHTA / AHTC (American Hairless Terrier Club ), an independently developed since 1988 dog breed, developed from the Rat Terrier; recognition was granted in 2004 by the UKC. Started breeding in early 1972, when in the midst of a litter of Rat Terriers a puppy had no hair. The owner of this dog crossed with other terriers Council, in the hope that they would have hairless puppies, and succeeded after several failed attempts.

Description

The American Hairless Terrier is identical in physique with the Rat Terrier. The head is broad, slightly arched and in relation to body size. He has a very soft and delicate skin, deep chest, strong shoulders, a thick neck and long, straight front legs, giving it a compact but elegant look.

He has triangular prick ears, but also in the upper part forwards falling erect ears are possible. Females usually have more delicate bodies and faces.

The dogs are indeed born hairy, but they lose before they reach the age of 8 weeks. The skin color is usually in the range of brown, pink to gray, marked with gray to blue, golden, black to red clearly separated points. The older the dog gets, the bigger the points. As in humans, the skin in the summer and darker in the winter fades out again.

Temperament

The American Hairless Terrier has a lot of energy, alert and curious. He enjoys walks and is ready to play at any time. He is usually friendly to strangers and not barking joyfully. With children and other dogs, the breed is usually tolerated. She is very curious and intelligent, which greatly facilitated the training.

Health / Health Care
