American Society of Anesthesiologists

The American Society of Anesthesiologists (Abbreviation: ASA ), founded in 1905 is an American professional society of Anesthesiology. It was founded in 1905 as Long Iceland Society of Anesthetists of 9 doctors at a meeting in Long Iceland College Hospital. In 1911 she expanded to 23 members as the New York Society of Anesthetists and was founded in 1935 with the American Society of Anesthetists. In 1945, she gave herself the present name.

The ASA has among other things a classification system ( ASA classification ) was developed which allows to estimate the physical status of the individual patient based on his medical history and the general condition.
