American University of Armenia

The American University of Armenia ( on German American University of Armenia, Armenian Հայաստանի ամերիկյան համալսարան ) is a private university in Yerevan, Armenia. After American model organized, it offers a number of Master's programs in English.
History
The idea of founding the American University of Armenia came on after the devastating earthquake in Spitak in 1988. With the support of Armenian General Benevolent Union ( AGBU ) and the University of California, the University on September 21, 1991, the Armenian Independence Day with 101 students enrolled at that time was established. The current President of the University is Bruce M. Boghosian.

Students
In 2005 268 students were enrolled at the university. Of these, about 25 foreigners, of which 13 came from Iran. Other international students came from Georgia, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Mongolia, Moldova, Russia and Syria. At the University of about 80 teachers are employed.
