The American Water Spaniel is one of the FCI (No. 301, Gr. 8, sec 3) recognized breed of dog in the United States. The breed is the official State Dog of the U.S. state of Wisconsin.
Origin and History
The ancestors of the American Water Spaniels probably came from the UK, possible ancestors are the Irish Water Spaniel, maybe the Old English Water Spaniel or the Field Spaniel. 1940, a dog of this breed was first registered and thus they were to breed dogs. Even before that shown on pictures ( 1850) a dog with these features. He was bred specifically from the 1920s by Dr. FJ Pfeifer.
Description
The American Water Spaniel is an active, muscular dog of medium size (46 cm, 18 kg) with an " undulating " ( corrugated ) to curly coat. Built it is slightly longer than high, not too square or compact, uniform liver- brown in color, brown or dark chocolate brown. A little white on toes and chest is permitted. The Skull fairly broad and strong, his Stop moderate, but not too pronounced. The ears are slightly above the eye line, but not too high on the head, are lobed, long and wide, it extends forward down to the nose.
Nature
They are intelligent and docile dog, always friendly and alert.
Use
The American Water Spaniel dog breed was developed in the United States as a useful versatile hunting dog, bred for retrieving the boat or canoe to and from work on the country. Relative ease with Outside North America, it is hardly to be found.
