Amesdorf is a district of the city Güsten in Salzlandkreis in Saxony- Anhalt.

Geographical Location

The place is situated on the northern edge of the northern Harz mountains on the right bank of the Wipper. West of Amesdorf branches from the left side of the Wipper Liethe from which opens at Staßfurt in the Bode. For the former municipality Amesdorf belonged to the district Warmsdorf, which lies on the other side Wipper.

History

Amesdorf was first mentioned in 1339 under the name Amelung village.

Much older, however, the district Warmsdorf which is already mentioned as Warmeresthorpe 1018. A water castle on the Wipper already existed in 1268. In the train of ( hereditary ) division of the state fell in 1546 the castles Warmsdorf, Plötzkau, Harzgerode and Guentersberge the Reformer Prince Georg the Pious or God Blessed ( George III. Von Anhalt- Dessau ) to. On him the foundation of the first Lutheran parish of the town in the 16th century goes back. He made 1547 the castle Warmsdorf his residence.
