Joachim I, Prince of Anhalt-Dessau

Joachim I. ( August 7, 1509 *, † December 6, 1561 in Dessau ) of Anhalt was a prince of Anhalt-Dessau.

Life

Joachim was the youngest son of Prince Ernst of Anhalt- Zerbst (1451-1516) from his marriage to Margaret (1473-1530), daughter of Duke Henry I of Münsterberg. After his university education Joachim lived mainly at the court of Saxony, Duke George the Bearded, of Joachim could not keep from crossing the Lutheran doctrine.

First Joachim ruled jointly with his older brothers John II and George III. , But they shared the land in 1546, where Joe Dessau, Lippene, Jeßnitz, Wörlitz and Raguhn received. Joachim developed a lively construction activity and issued a police order. In Dessau in 1554, he renewed the tower of St. Mary's Church. Joachim was a loner, but also as a close friend of Luther, Melanchthon and Joachim Camerarius. Joachim died unmarried and childless, his country fell to his brother Johann 's sons.
