Ami Assaf

Ami Assaf (birth name: Ami Vilkovitz; Hebrew עמי אסף; born July 22, 1903 in Rosh Pina, Galilee, † May 17, 1963 ) was an Israeli politician, who was elected in 1949 as Member of Parliament in the first Knesset, and to this belonged to his death.

Life

Assaf attended after elementary school in Rosh Pina Herzliya Hebrew High School in Tel Aviv and was then employed in agriculture. He was one of the founders of the village of Kfar Yashoua and in 1936 was appointed secretary of the Moshav Movement, a co-operative settlement movement in the League of Nations Mandate of Palestine. In addition, he was a member of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party ( Mapai ).

After the establishment of Israel Assaf was elected on February 14, first time in 1949 as a deputy in the Knesset and was one of these until his death on 17 May 1963. During his membership of Parliament he was a member of various Knesset committees.

He most recently served from November 1959 until his death Vice Minister of Education and Culture in the Cabinet of Prime Minister David Ben- Gurion.
