Amschel Moses Rothschild

Amschel Moses Rothschild ( † October 6, 1755 in Frankfurt am Main ) is one of the ancestors of the Rothschild family. His fourth son Mayer Amschel Rothschild, who is considered the founder of the Rothschild dynasty.

Amschel Moses Rothschild worked in the Frankfurt Jewish street as a simple money-changers, who occasionally also acted in silk. His property was worth a total of 1,375 guilders in 1749. He was thus more likely to be poorer Jews of the Frankfurt ghetto. Residence of his family was the secret annex to the pan ( Jewish street 188), in which his ancestors had moved in 1664. The old residence was a house in the southern part of the Jewish street, the name to red shield was wearing, which was built in the 16th century by Isaac Elchanan. As is often the case, the family had derived their surname from the name of the house. The name Rothschild has been retained, when the family moved to the northern part of the Jewish street.

Moses Amschel Rothschild had eight children with his wife Schönche. However, only five survived childhood. The sons attended until her thirteenth year of life one of the several Chadarim the Frankfurt Jewish street. It is unusual that Moses Amschel Rothschild sent his fourth son on the Talmud school in Fürth. The reason for this is uncertain, as there was a very prestigious Rabbinatsschule in Frankfurt. Moses Amschel Rothschild died on October 6, 1755 during a smallpox epidemic.
