N- amyl ester is an ester of nitric acid and amyl alcohol. Confusion with amyl nitrite should be avoided.
Use
It, like other nitrates are also used as cetane improvers for diesel fuels.
Production
Chemically, amyl nitrate by esterification of nitric acid with 1- pentanol (common name: amyl alcohol ) are presented. The result is a pear -like fruity smelling oil. The fumes are toxic on inhalation and easily lead to circulatory disturbance.
