Amyntas (son of Nicolaus)

Amyntas (Greek Ἀμύντας, † probably 325 BC ), son of Nikolaos Aloros, was a Macedonian soldier and governor of Alexander the Great.

Amyntas took part in the Asia campaign of Alexander. From him he was appointed BC satrap of Bactria Province in autumn 328. This office was a few months before already assigned to Kleitos, but he was killed shortly afterwards by Alexander in dispute. In order to keep the troubled province under control, 400 Macedonian Warrior and the entire hippakontistai ( native warriors) were doing him set aside under the command of Koinos. With these troops he proposed immediately down an uprising of the Bactrians, who had stood up immediately after the Weiterzug Alexander. In the spring of 327 BC Amyntas received an additional 10,000 infantrymen and cavalrymen 3500 from the main army betrayed as reinforcement. Most of those warriors revolted 325 BC, after a false report of the death of Alexander in India reached the province.

Amyntas was probably killed in this uprising. Already for the year 323 BC, Philip, who was already governor of Sogdiana, called in the possession of Bactria.
