Ana María Matute

Ana María Matute ( born July 26, 1925 in Barcelona) is a Spanish writer.

Life

Matute is the second of five children of a petty-bourgeois Catalan family. Her mother spoke Spanish, her father - by profession an umbrella maker - Catalan. She grew up in the Spanish Civil War. Their experiences from this period can be found in sad subjects of her books again.

1959, she was awarded for her novel first memory of the Nadal Prize for Literature.
