Ana María Matute

Ana María Matute ( born July 26, 1925 in Barcelona) is a Spanish writer.

Life

Matute is the second of five children of a petty-bourgeois Catalan family. Her mother spoke Spanish, her father - by profession an umbrella maker - Catalan. She grew up in the Spanish Civil War. Their experiences from this period can be found in sad subjects of her books again.

1959, she was awarded for her novel first memory of the Nadal Prize for Literature. Since 1996 she has been a member of the Royal Spanish Academy, which oversees the Spanish language - currently selected as the only woman in addition to the 2010 Soledad Puértolas. 2010 Matute was awarded the Cervantespreis.
