Ananías Maidana

Ananías Maidana ( born July 26, 1923 in Encarnación, † October 30, 2010 in Asunción ) was a Paraguayan politician.

Maidana was from 2007 until his death Chairman of the Communist Party of Paraguay (PCP ). During the dictatorship of Alfredo Stroessner, he was imprisoned for many years. The source location is not uniform with respect to this phase of his life. So reports the newspaper La Nacion of 17 years in prison, while Ultimahora speaks of a total of 24 years imprisonment, including 20 years without interruption in the Comisaría Tercera, where he was temporarily tortured. In 1978 he went into exile in Sweden and the Soviet Union. Again reported Ultimahora opposite from exile stay in Argentina. After the military coup in 1989 against Stroessner, he returned to his home country and was involved in building a democratic process. In the same year he became general secretary of the PCP. This office he held until 2007. In March 2010, he was honored by the Paraguayan government with the Order de la Cruz del Defensor, the highest non -military honor state of the country. He died on 30 October 2010 at the age of 87 years in the Hospital Central del IPS in Asunción from prostate cancer.
