Ob ' Bay with Lillie Glacier Tongue, Bowers and Anare Mountains

The Anare Mountains are a mountain range on the north coast of Victoria Land in Antarctica.

Location

The Anare Mountains are bounded on the north and east by the Pacific Ocean, on the west by Lillie Glacier and in the south by the ebb and from Dennistoun Glacier. The highest mountain is 2090 m with the peak Drabek. Other important mountains in the Anare Mountains are the Mount Kelly 1110 m and Mount Burch with 1400 m.

Geology

Geologically the Anare Mountains to the Robertson Bay Group are expected, a sequence over a large area of folded greywacke and argillite forked, extending from the Bower Mountains in the west to the Robertson Bay and Tucker Glacier in the east. The convolution in the Anare Mountains here is narrower than in the other areas of the Robertson Bay Group.

History

The first discovery of the mountain was made by James Clark Ross in 1841. The first photographic recording of the mountain was 1946/47, by the Operation High Jump in the U.S. Navy, further research and survey by the United States Geological Survey 1962/63 with the help of helicopters. The mountains of the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition ( NZGSAE ) was named 1963/64, explored by one of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions ( ANARE ), which took place in 1962 under the direction of Phillip Law and the coast.
