Blood Red neck block ( Anastrangalia sanguinolenta ) (formerly Leptura s ) is a beetle of the family of longhorn beetles ( Cerambycidae ).

Features

The beetles are 9 to 11 millimeters long. They have a black body. In the male the elytra are yellow -brown and shining weakly, in the female red and matte. They have a black tip at the end. The yellow- haired pronotum is about as long as wide, has a distinct impression at the base and has no center line. The elytra are finely punctured and black hairy.

Similar Species

In the two similar species of Neck plate is substantially longer than it is wide and has a substantial center line. The elytra seam is often dyed darker.

Occurrence

They occur in coniferous forests, mixed forests and needle on pasture and meadows, especially in the mountains. Its distribution extends over Europe, Caucasus, Transcaucasia and western Siberia to Lake Baikal. In Europe the species is spread to the northern Fennoscandia; in England and Scotland, the beetles are rarely encountered.

Way of life

The larvae live in dead conifers, especially spruce and fir trees, whose wood they feed.
