Anatrachyntis coridophaga

Anatrachyntis coridophaga is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of the splendor butterfly ( Cosmopterigidae ).

Features

The moths reach a wingspan of 9 mm. The head is pale reddish brown. The antennae are blackish brown and white hooped in the first third. This is followed by three brown and three white sections, each consisting of four segments. The probe tip is dark brown. The labial palps are white. The second segment has a brown basal spot outside and a brown subapical ring. The third segment has dark brown subbasale, medial and subapikale rings. Thorax and tegulae are reddish brown, the latter are lined with wide white. The thorax has a white band behind the middle. The fore wings are reddish brown and marked with two white napkins. The first is located at 1 /4 of the forewing length and curves on the Costa loader to the wing base. The second binding is located in front of the wing center, runs at a slight angle to the outside and does not reach the Costa loader. Both napkins are inside margins dark brown. A base line runs along the Costa loader. A similar line starts at the outer side of the second binding anal cleft and running along the inner edge to the wing, where it turns inwardly and pointing towards the apex. A rather indistinct, white Subcostalstrich is located behind the second binding and extends to the apex. He is more or less mixed reddish brown scales. A reddish-brown area extends between the second binding and Apex. The fringe scales are at the apex yellowish white reddish brown and towards the wing inner edge. The hind wings are including Frans scales yellowish white.

In the males, the Brachia are strong. The left brachium is slightly shorter than the right and tapers abruptly to a sharp point. The Valven are spatulate and have a straight top edge. The lower edge is convex. The apex is rounded. The left Valvella is straight and tapers distally. The apex is rounded. The right Valvella is very small. The aedeagus is long and cylindrical. It tapers distally slightly. The genital armature of the males differs from Anatrachyntis rileyi and Anatrachyntis badia by the thicker Brachia and the large, cylindrical aedeagus.

In females, the sterigma is spherical and centrally provided with a large ostium. The ductus bursae is longer than the corpus bursae. The corpus bursae is egg-shaped and has an elongated lobe, which ends in the ductus seminalis.

The short and wider front wings with two nearly straight, white bars distinguish Anatrachyntis coridophaga from other similar species.

Dissemination

Anatrachyntis coridophaga is based in Egypt and Libya.

Biology

The caterpillars develop in the buds of various types of hibiscus (Hibiscus ). The moths were detected in April, July and October.
