Anatrachyntis simplex

Anatrachyntis simplex is ( Cosmopterigidae ) a butterfly (moth ) from the family of the splendor of butterflies.

Features

The moths reach a wingspan of 10 millimeters. The head is off-white and dorsally strongly mixed reddish brown. The neck tufts is creamy white and side-seamed reddish brown. The labial palps are externally reddish brown, the inside is white. The first segment is very short. The second segment is one fifth less than the third segment. It has a white apical ring and inside an ocher subapical spot. The third segment is white, in the middle of the inside has a blackish spot and a blackish subapical ring. The antennae are curled dark brown and white. In the apical part there are three dark brown segments, each consisting of five segments. The sensor base member ( scape ) is dorsal ocher and has a dark gray subapical ring. Ventral it is white. The thorax is white and has a broad white median stripe. The tegulae are reddish brown and fitted inside with a dark brown mixed white hem.

The front wings have a reddish brown ground color, which ends at the wing tip in a thin line on the wing outer edge. At 1/ 4 of the forewing length, there is a white band is curved to wing base and narrower at the Costa loader. A white spot is located in the middle of the wing inner edge, outer borders a dark brown spot on the. To subscribe to the forewings are more narrow longitudinal white lines that are mixed more or less dark brown: one is located at the wing inner edge and extends from the base to the transverse fascia, another runs along the anal fold and ends in the Frans shed, another starts at the transverse band above the anal fold and divides into the Diskalzelle, a subcostaler spot starts against the Dorsalfleck and ends in the Frans shed on the Costa loader, the last line runs along the Costa loader of 1 /3 of the forewing length towards the apex. At the inner angle there is a dark brown spot. At the narrow reddish-brown line at the apex is bordered on both sides of a blackish spot. The fringe scales on the interior angles have a short black line. The fringe scales are yellowish to ocher, reddish brown at the wing tip and the wing inner edge more gray on the Costa loader and at the inner angle. The hind wings are gray and have gray ocher Frans shed. The abdomen is dark gray and has a creamy-white tufts anus.

In the males of the 7th sternite is bulged square and front deep V-shaped. The right brachium is long, strongly curved and has an enlarged apex. The left brachium is straight and one third as long as the right. The Valven are spatulate and strongly ciliated. There is a large lobe at the base. The left Valvella is short and curved, the right Valvella missing. The aedeagus is very long and cylindrical at the base, it is dilated. The genital armature of the male differs from the other species of the genus by the shape of the right Brachiums and of the blades.

In females, the rear end of the 7th sternite is convex. The sterigma is spoon-shaped. The ductus bursae widens in the direction of the ostium and is slightly longer than the corpus bursae.

Dissemination

Anatrachyntis simplex is used in Spain, Portugal, Cyprus, Morocco, Egypt and the UK.

Biology

The caterpillars develop on damaged seed, plant fibers and commonly in plant residues of cotton bolls that have already been attacked by other invertebrates. In Africa, the caterpillars have been found in oil palm ( Elaeis guineensis ) and Eriodendron anfractuosum. In Europe, the moths were collected in August and October. In the tropics there are several generations.

System

Batrachedra coriacella was described in 1901 by Snellen and later treated as a junior synonym of Anatrachyntis simplex. A careful examination of the stored in Leiden in the National Natural History Museum female Lectotyps revealed significant differences in the genital structure, so that the species status of Sinev was restored in 2002 (see Anatrachyntis coriacella ).
