Ancient Diocese of Alet

The diocese of Alet (Latin: Dioecesis Electensis seu Aletensis ) was located in France Roman Catholic diocese based in Alet -les- Bains.

History

The diocese of Alet was posted on February 28, 1318 by Pope John XXII. built with the Papal Bull alma mater Ecclesia out of territory of the archbishopric of Narbonne. First bishop was Barthelemy. The Abbey Church of Sainte -Marie became a cathedral.

On 29 November 1801, the diocese of Alet was disbanded due to the Concordat of 1801 by Pope Pius VII with the Papal Bull Qui Christi Domini and the territory was the archbishopric Toulouse and the diocese of Carcassonne affiliated.

The diocese of Alet was the archbishopric of Narbonne is a suffragan.

On 9 February 2009 the diocese of Alet was rebuilt as a titular Alet.
