Ancient Diocese of Arles

The Archdiocese of Arles (Latin: Archdioecesis Arelatensis ) is a former Roman Catholic archdiocese in southern France. A bishopric was founded in the 3rd century in Arles, 417 Arles was elevated to an archdiocese with the suffragan sees Marseille, Saint -Paul -Trois -Châteaux, Toulon, Orange. With the Concordat of 1801 the Archdiocese of Arles was temporarily resolved. While it is restored again in 1817, but this only last for five years. The diocese went on in the Archdiocese of Aix ( -Arles - Embrun ).
