Ancient Diocese of Chalon-sur-Saône

The diocese of Chalon (Latin: Dioecesis Cabillonensis ) was a location in France Roman Catholic diocese based in Chalon -sur -Saône.

History

The diocese of Chalon was built in the 4th century. First bishop was Donatien.

On 29 November 1801, the diocese of Chalon was disbanded due to the Concordat of 1801 by Pope Pius VII with the Papal Bull Qui Christi Domini and the territory was annexed to the diocese of Autun.

The diocese of Chalon was the archbishopric Lyon is a suffragan. In 1772 the diocese of Chalon comprised 220 parishes.
