Ancient Diocese of Dorchester

The Diocese of Dorchester (Latin: Dioecesis Dorcestrensis ) was a United Kingdom Situated in today's Roman Catholic diocese based in Dorchester.

History

The Diocese of Dorchester was 869-888 with the transfer of the bishopric from Leicester to Dorchester. First bishop was Harlardus. In the year 971 the bishopric of the diocese of Lindsey Dorchester was annexed. Bishop Remigius de Fécamp moved in 1072 to the bishopric as a result of attacks by the Normans from Dorchester to Lincoln and the title was changed to Bishop of Lincoln.

The Diocese of Dorchester was the archbishopric of Canterbury, is a suffragan.
