André Cayatte

André Cayatte ( born February 3, 1909 in Carcassonne, † February 6, 1989 in Paris) was a lawyer and an important French film director of the 20th century. His films deal with the problems and grievances of the French judiciary.

Life

Cayatte studied law, then worked as a lawyer and dedicate preparing himself by the way the letter. As the author of award-winning novels - 1940 he was honored for his work The trap the Prix Cazes - he gained public attention, so that he soon devoted himself entirely to writing. In 1937 he turned to the medium of film and initially wrote entertaining scenarios, changed his field of 1942 and was a film director. His cinematographic career started with the film Cayatte The false lover, based on the novel by Honoré de Balzac, followed by film adaptations of French classics. In 1949 he succeeded to the lovers of Verona, a modern Romeo and Juliet adaptation, his first international success.

A year later Cayette sparked by gay film genre, as well as of literary adaptations and dedicate preparing the topic "Analysis of righteousness" to relentlessly criticized the French judiciary and its methods. With films such as trial by jury or before the Flood, he won great acclaim so quickly. After criticism of the judiciary, he said in his last period, especially social problems in the center of his films and dealt with the love die even then taboo subjects, such as the forbidden connection a teacher to a young student.
