André Lurçat

André Lurçat ( born August 27, 1894 in Bruyeres, † July 11, 1970 in Sceaux ) was a French architect.

Life

André Lurçat was a brother of the artist Jean Lurçat. After the construction of a number of apartment buildings in Paris, which are representative of the style of the late 1920s and early 1930s in France, André Lurçat created with the school complex in the Paris suburb of Villejuif thanks to the support of the local communist mayor Paul Vaillant - Couturier his major work, which helped him to international fame. He lived from 1934 to 1937 in the USSR, where he built a children's hospital and an institute for physics and chemistry, among others.
