André Shepherd

André Shepherd ( born May 21, 1977 in Cleveland, Ohio ) is a deserter from the U.S. Army, who has applied for political asylum in Germany. It was the first asylum request of a U.S. deserter in Germany. With his desertion on 11 April 2007 and the application for asylum on 26 November 2008, he escaped his re- deployment to Iraq. He had previously fought in the Iraq war, which he sees as contrary to international law war of aggression. The asylum application was rejected on 4 April 2011. On April 7, 2011 Shepherd has instructed his lawyer to file a suit against the negative asylum decision.

On January 23, 2013, there should be negotiated before the administrative court in Munich on the submitted application for asylum in November 2008 by André Shepherd. This trial was discontinued. At the request of the attorney of the Shepherd Munich Administrative Court has asked in September 2013 the European Court in Luxembourg for clarification of fundamental questions in the asylum procedure of the U.S. deserter Andre Shepherd.
