Andreas Cellarius

Andreas Cellarius (c. 1596 in Neuhausen, † 1665 in Hoorn ) was a German astronomer, mathematician and cosmography.

Andreas Cellarius was born the son of a pastor of the same name in Neuhausen near Worms. After the family moved to Heidelberg he attended the Sapienzkolleg and enrolled in 1614 at the university there.

Little is known about his fate. In 1625 he married in Amsterdam. From 1637 until his death in 1665 he was rector of the Latin school in Hoorn.

In 1660 he published his richly illustrated sky atlas, which later often called " Harmonia Macrocosmica " as " Cellarius Atlas ".

After him the asteroid ( 12618 ) Cellarius was named.
