Andreas Düben

Andreas Duben (* 1597 in Leipzig, † July 7, 1662 in Stockholm ) was a German conductor, organist and composer. His father was Andrew Duben (1558-1625), organist at St. Thomas Church in Leipzig.

He received his education from 1614 to 1620 in Amsterdam at the Sweelinck and took over a year after he moved to Sweden in 1624 for the position of court organist in Stockholm. He remained loyal to this city, where he worked later as organist of the German Church St. Gertrud and Kapellmeister of the Royal Swedish Court Orchestra ( Kungliga Hovkapellet ). His descendants took over the post of Court Kapellmeister to the first half of the 18th century.

Among the few works by him received to find a motet, a Miserere and some organ compositions, in which it is clearly seen as a pupil of Sweelinck.
