Andreas Vevera

Andreas Vevera (born 1971 ) is an Austrian table tennis player. In the Summer Paralympics in Beijing in 2008 he won a gold medal in table tennis singles.

Life

Vevera is a paraplegic since a motor boat accident in May 1988 and is in a wheelchair. During a holiday in the Mediterranean he had chartered a motor boat, with which he sat up on a sandbar. His father was able to save his life, but he suffered in the accident, a broken neck, legs and stomach which have since completely, arms and neck partially paralyzed. His football career, he was a striker for Wiener Sport - Club, was completed. In addition to the pain, the injury also caused respiratory and circulatory problems, and he had in months of convalescence so obvious things like breathing, eating, drinking, dressing, and writing to learn or relearn new.

A new occupation he found as a secretary in an integrated school with 100 disabled and 200 non-disabled children. Sporty, he focused in the following on the table tennis games. The right hand is in the A-team of the Austrian national team and plays for the counterparties located in Klosterneuburg BSV White yard. In October 2006, he was at the World Championships in Switzerland World Cup champions and thereby No. 1 in the world rankings in the Handicap Class 1 In the Summer Paralympics 2008 he won gold against the Koreans Jae- Kwan Cho (Silver) and Hae -Kon Lee (bronze).
