Andrée Land (Svalbard)

Andrée Land is an area in the north of the island of Spitsbergen on Svalbard.

Geography

Andrée - country mainly comprises the land between Wood fjords and Wijdefjorden. The southern boundary runs from the Wood fjords south to Holtedahlfonna and thence eastward across Abrahamsenbreen, Ruskenbreen, Millarpasset and Vestfjorddalen to Vestfjorden. To the west Andrée Land of Haakon VII country and on the south by James - I country.

The long coastline is not covered by glaciers and inside is Andrée Land, in contrast to the west of this neighborhood of Frankfurt Haakon VII country covers of relatively small glaciers. Etymology

Andrée Land was named after Salomon August Andrée (1854-1897), a Swedish engineer and Arctic explorer. The name was assigned by the Spitsbergen cartographer Gerard Jacob De Geer.
