Andrei Famintsyn

Andrei Sergeyevich Faminzyn also Faminzin (Russian: Андрей Сергеевич Фаминцын; 17 Junijul / June 29 1835greg in Sokolniki in Moscow, .. † December 8, 1918 in Petrograd ) was a Russian biologist and plant physiologist.

Life

He graduated from the University of Saint Petersburg in 1857 and held there from 1861 to 1889 lectures on botany. In 1867 he was A.O. and in 1872 full professor of botany. In May 1879 he was put in jail. In 1887 he wrote the first Russian textbook of plant physiology. In 1890 he founded at the Academy the Laboratory of Anatomy and Physiology of Plants.

He worked on the photosynthesis and the metabolism of the plants. He showed the carbon dioxide assimilation of strength training even in artificial light.

His younger brother is the composer Alexander Sergeyevich Faminzyn (* 1841).
