Andres Gerber

Andres Gerber (born 26 April 1973) is a former Swiss football player. In the 2009/10 season Andres Gerber has resigned from active professional football and is currently employed as a sports director and assistant coach at Axpo Super League club FC Thun.

As a junior Gerber played at FC Belp and the Young Boys Bern (short YB ). In YB he made the leap into the professional game. Further stations of his career were FC Lausanne-Sport (1998-2000) and Grasshopper Zurich (2000-2003).

In 2003 he moved to FC Thun Bernese Oberland, with whom he celebrated his greatest successes. From 2002 to 2008, the midfielder played in the top Swiss league, the Super League and played with FC Thun also two games in the Champions League, one of them despite a hamstring injury.

After the FC Thun 2008 descent into the Challenge League, graduated Gerber 2008/ 09 as team captain for 15 games before he was injured again. This incident greatly influenced his future career.

For Andres Gerber began a job odyssey. First, he assisted during his injury lay-off then coach Hans Ruedi Baumann, and after his release he served until the end of the 2008/09 season as head coach. Under his leadership, the previously rather hapless team won two of three games, which he recommended for continued employment.

Career as a sports director and assistant coach

On 5 June 2009 the FC Thun Murat Yakin hired as the new coach. The at that time still not fully recuperated 36 -year-old Andres Gerber decided thereto from active professional football resign. FC Thun obliged the former player finally as sports director and assistant coach, a position he currently still exerts.
