Andrew Marton

Andrew Marton (actually Endre Marton, * January 26, 1904 in Budapest, † January 7, 1992 in Santa Monica, California ) was a Hungarian- American director, producer and editor. He directed 39 films and television programs, and 16 as an assistant director.

Life

After his high school graduation in 1922, he was brought Alfréd Deésy as an editorial assistant for Sascha film in Vienna. After a few months he came to the attention of director Ernst Lubitsch, who convinced him to try his luck in Hollywood. In 1927 he returned to Europe and worked as editor of Tobis in Berlin and later as an assistant director in Vienna. In 1929 he directed his first feature film, Two clock in the morning in the UK. In 1934 he made ​​an expedition to Tibet, where he turned the demon of the Himalayas. In 1935, he turned in Budapest his only Hungarian film. 1936-39 he worked in London with Alexander Korda.

After the beginning of World War II, he went to the USA, where he first worked mainly for MGM studios. In 1954 he founded together with Iván Törzs, Louis Meyer and László Benedek his own production company, where he worked until the mid- 1970s.

Andrew Marton died at the age of 87 years.
