Andørja

The island Andørja is 135.27 km ² large Norwegian island and is adjacent to one of the two islands in the Rolla community Ibestad in the southern part of Troms Fylke. Andørja, known for its high mountains, is the most mountainous island in the North: 11 mountain peaks with an altitude of over 1000 m - 1277 m with Langlitinden is the highest peak.

Most residents Andørjas are employed by the municipality. The economic life consists of fishing, agriculture and tourism. Andørja is cleaved by an 8 km long fjord almost into two parts - the Straumbotn. The island is known for its Andørja statistically good weather and offers a variety of year-round and especially fishing.

The former municipality Andørja

Andørja is a former municipality in Troms county in Northern Norway. Andørja arose as a splinter group from the community Ibestad in 1926 and at that time had a population of 1420 people. On January 1, 1964 Andørja was reintegrated into the community Ibestad.
